Card of the Day – 9♦ – Nine of Diamonds (Coins)

Nine of Coins5/10 – a 9♦ day:

Keywords:
SELF-RELIANCE
REFINEMENT
DISCIPLINE
LUXURY

Nine of Diamonds depicts a woman luxuriating in her own garden, clothed in robes, with ripe grapes & coins surrounding her in the garden. She has a falcon on her arm, a symbol of popular sport and status among the nobles of medieval Europe & the Middle East. She is a woman of means, and by many accounts interpreted as by her own doing. I have seen this card referred to as ‘luxury’.

When this card appears, reflect on what you have done for yourself and the ways in which you have been disciplined that you are now reaping rewards from. If you are not experiencing this, consider how you could be more self-reliant and reap the riches of your own doing.

Jack of Diamonds is slow, cautious, steady. He is the least flighty of all the Jacks. Like all Jacks, he is creative and romantic, but he is the more serious, careful one. He is a kind of ‘bottom-line’ personality. Even his heavy horse is at a standstill, (in contrast to the other Knights/Jacks) while he considers the practicality of the matter. When this card shows up for you, ask if you need to be more practical, or if you need to be less so and more flexible.

Card of the Day – Joker – Fool

The Fool12/31 – New Year’s Eve – The Joker / The Fool.

Keywords:
STARTING SOMETHING NEW
BEING SPONTANEOUS
HAVING FAITH
TRUSTING YOUR HEART’S DESIRE

What an appropriate card for today! This card has a strong sense of innocence & adventure to it – completely in line with the optimism of a New Year. It’s all about being open & trusting what is to come. Traditionally, the Joker was the person who took on different roles and entertained the royal court – often doing impersonations of the king or other members of the court. The Joker could be anyone – even showing up in card games as being a ‘wild’ card that could take on the personality or identity of any of the other cards. The Joker/Fool card is about freedom – fresh starts, new beginnings (is the first card in the deck, and separate from all others because it has no number), and an infinite range of options. No wonder this card is about trying new things and grand optimism…

Happy New Year Everyone!

All Hallow’s Day

Happy All Hallow’s Day!

Did you know that Halloween is a derivative of Hallow’s Eve? It relates to the fact that it is the night before All Hallows Day, also known as Hallowmas, or All Saint’s Day, or Day of the Dead, which is today, November 1st.

It was widely believed in Europe and other countries that the veil between the spiritual world and the mundane or earthly world became thinner during these few days. Many cultures also celebrate this time of year, as in Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The Phillipines call it ‘Todos Los Santos’ or ‘All Saints’.

In Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Chile, France, Hungary, Italy, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Malta, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, and American cities such as New Orleans, people take flowers to the graves of dead relatives. In Portugal people also light candles in the graves.

In Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Catholic parts of Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden, the tradition is to light candles and visit the graves of deceased relatives.

Card of the Day – 4♥ – Four of Hearts (Cups)

Four of Cups10/31 – a 4♥ Day.

Happy Halloween!

Keywords:
BEING SELF-ABSORBED
INTROSPECTION
FEELING DISENGAGED
GOING WITHIN

This card shows that when we are preoccupied with ourselves, we sometimes miss out on the love that is being offered to us. In the card, the figure is so self-absorbed and focused on themselves and/or the three cups in the foreground, that the additional cup being offered goes completely unseen. How can you open up and see what love is right in front of you?

Another relevant interpretation of this card is ‘introspection’. Traditionally, this time of year is when the veil between the worlds of the physical (here on earth) and the spiritual is more permeable, and hence many traditions honor this: Day of the Dead in Mexico, All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day in the Christian tradition, and Samhain in the pagan tradition.

All of these reflect that it is a special time for us to go within (like this card!) and meditate on our thoughts, connect with those loved ones who have passed on.

HEARTBREAK
INDECISION
DISAPPOINTMENT

This card shows a heart pierced by three swords. Although the traditional interpretation is heartbreak and betrayal, 3 energy can also manifest as indecision and worry, as if your heart were being pulled in many directions, and the angst that results from being ‘torn’. It sometimes arrives when we are trying to make a difficult decision about something, and feel heartbroken or stuck in making the decision.

This card also has ‘3rd Wheel’ energy, in the sense that there may be some excessive component to something that does not belong, but which you’re having a hard time letting go of. This card can also be an indicator that there is some sadness in a situation that has developed, but which needs acknowledgement now. It may be difficult to face whatever difficulty exists, but by facing it and accepting it, with whatever grief may accompany it, we allow ourselves to move on.
